So? Why Thrifting?

Let me just start out by saying that I LOVE clothes. LOVE. However, I don't give a rat's patoot about fashion. I just like what I like. What I don't like is paying full price for anything. Pretty sure my soul is a cheapskate. Therefore I thrift and I can thrift like a crazy woman. (In fact, I do thrift like a crazy woman.) I recently lost quite a bit of weight and needed to replace most of my too large wardrobe. I still am planning on losing another 15-20 pounds and dropping money on clothes when I'm going to need more is not happening. I figured why the hell not share my thrifting scores and clearance sale finds. Plus, I plan on sharing thrifting advice/ skills and perhaps sharing an upcycled project or two. (I also happen to cuss a bit like a sailor. Fine, a LOT like a sailor. I will send out a blanket apology now if that offends you.)

Reasons to thrift in no particular order:

  • SAVING MONEY! Who the heck doesn't like saving money?
  • It's the thrill of the hunt! You have no idea what treasures you will find! Or what horrors you will find. Don't worry I have full intentions on sharing the scary stuff too. Sometimes you just got to try on the neon paisley bell bottoms to get a good laugh.
  • It's a great way to recycle. The fashion industry and ready-to-wear clothes produce more waste than you can imagine. Instead of buying new and adding to that waste, thrifting takes what's already been made and not creating more.
  • Thrifting is a fabulous way to get together with your friends. I love getting a group together and tackling a thrift store.
  • Finding vintage items! Vintage clothing items can really make a unique wardrobe.
Without further ado, today's outfit. (You didn't know there would be PICTURES?!?! I may need to lay off the caps lock button a bit. Kind of obnoxious if you ask me.)

Outfit breakdown:
Philosophy black cap sleeve tshirt (it was BRAND new with tags) - $2.50
Rock & Republic jeans - retails for $88. I paid $2.50
Leopard print flats - Payless shoes from 5 years ago? I know I didn't pay more than $10 for them

An entire outfit for $15!!!!! Seriously people!

Make sure to follow me on facebook @funkliciousthrifting. I will share outtake photos. My photographer is my adorable 10 year old and we like to ham it up a bit.

What in the world?!

Don't you just love it when someone starts a blog and then doesn't post for months on end?!?! (crickets chirping) What can I say? Life. It happens. Kids get busy. Work gets insane. You stop folding clean clothes until 3 weeks pile up in baskets and overtakes your family room. I'm still thrifty crazy as ever. Opened a Poshmark shop,  https://poshmark.com/closet/funklicious . (Seriously, go check it out. I have good taste!) Last post was all about my favorite thrift haunts. I thought it might be beneficial to go over some good guidelines to keep in mind when you go thrifting (if you are new to the thrifting game). 1. Bring friends. It's a bitchin' time to get some of your peeps together and search for buried treasure in thrift stores. Trust me on this. 2. Research your thrift stores first and check out their sale schedule. What colored tags are marked down? When is Ladies' Night? What days are 50% off (BEST DAY EVER)? 3. Don't go in with a specif...

Favorite Thrifting Haunts Part 1

I live in the Metro Detroit area and we are certainly blessed with some damn fine thrift stores. It's going to take me a few posts to list them all, along with all their pros/cons. I will try not to bore you to tears. 1. Value World - located on Central City Parkway in Westland (across from Westland Mall). Pros - HUGE selection of big name brands. Value World has probably the cheapest prices around. PLUS they send out 50% off your entire purchase coupons and other coupon goodies if you go online and subscribe to the newsletter. Make sure to check the white board at the front of the store for the current day's sale. Cons - No dressing rooms to try on, so you take a chance when you purchase. Plan on wearing a tank top under your shirt. At least this way you can try on shirts/jackets. Another check mark against them is that the store is quite large and can seem fairly daunting to tackle. 2. Salvation Army - locaded on Morton Taylor and Joy Rd. (I think...) Pros - You can...
